Financial Management

The Financial Management Team supports faculty, researchers, staff and students in acquiring goods and services efficiently and secures the financial integrity of the Department. Operationally, this team developes the annual budget and recharge rates, accounts for spending, implements accounting controls, coordinates billings and purchases, processes payments and reimbursements, documents transactions, and authorizes financial systems access. It also serves as a liaison to the Medical School finance division, the Controller's Office, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and internal and external suppliers.

  • Answer questions related to purchasing guidelines and processes
  • Answer questions related to acquiring and paying for goods and services
  • Answer questions related to financial reports, journal transactions and documentation
  • Answer questions about University policies, procedures, processes, tools, and resources related to EFS

Grant Pre-Award

The Grant Pre-Award Team is dedicated to enabling the research goals of the MNPI Center departments. This team facilitates grant submissions in the pre-award stages, serving as a resource to faculty and research staff on the policies and guidelines pertaining to federal, state and foundation grants. They also act as a liaison to the University of Minnesota's Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) and provide guidance on changes in the research environment.

What We Can Do For You

  • Alert faculty to government, nonprofit and industry funding sources
  • Coordinate proposal development and submission process
  • Provide up-to-date guidelines for proposals
  • Coordinate subcontracts
  • Complete annual progress reports
  • Act as liaison to Sponsored Projects Administration
  • Manage award data and reporting
  • Assist post-docs in submitting fellowships and career transition award proposals
  • Facilitate PI or institutional grant transfers
  • Provide information on responsible conduct of research (RCR) training and professional development opportunities
  • Assist with IACUC and IRB protocol tracking

Human Resources

The Human Resources team supports faculty and staff with hiring and managing employees throughout the employment lifecycle. This team assists supervisors in developing and posting staff positions, processes appointments, facilitates visa requests, orients new hires, processes payroll and salary increases, coordinates annual performance evaluation processes, and provides guidance on University human resource policies.

  • Initiate performance evaluation process
  • Provide guidance on Visa applications
  • Provide guidance on University HR policies

Education Administration

The Education Administration Team is committed to the highest standards of undergraduate, graduate and medical education. This team provides support for faculty in all aspects of course implementation, student support services, course data input and monitoring.

What We Can Do For You

  • Input and monitor grades
  • Register students for courses
  • Reserve classrooms
  • Provide up-to-date guidance on University policies with respect to teaching and student support
  • Facilitate faculty advising
  • Maintain graduate program records
  • Assist with online course development
  • Coordinate special events related to the teaching mission of the department

Department Administration

The Department Administrators are committed to facilitating departmental operations and providing administrative support to students, faculty and staff.  They play an important role in hiring, guiding, problem solving, and communicating with employees in all areas of departmental functions.

  • Monitor space and equipment
  • Monitor and approve grant proposals
  • Support faculty related activities and agendas
  • Support department communications

Information Technology

The University of Minnesota's Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides system-wide support to faculty, staff and students for general technology needs. The MNPI Center IT team provides hands-on local technical support to center faculty and staff.

What We Can Do For You

  • Configuration, installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair of eligible computer hardward, software, networking and peripherals
  • "How to" help on all supported technologies
  • Assistance with data back-up and recovery
  • Coordination/referral for all other IT services 

Laboratory Safety and Operations

The Laboratory Safety and Operations Team is dedicated to providing faculty, researchers, students and staff with assistance for safe, compliant and efficient laboratory operations.

What We Can Do For You

  • Provide up-to-date information on laboratory safety and pertinent policies
  • Serve as liaison with environmental entities
  • Serve as liaison with facilities management
  • Assist with equipment inventories
  • Assist with laboratory moves
  • Monitor controlled substances
